After nearly two months of silence, I now return! And with much to say too! Yesterday, Dr. Levine spoke on the "Art of Medicine". She gave us a lot of advice that I know is going to be very very useful as future-physicians...like how to tell a patient that they have cancer without making him/her feel as if there is no hope and the person should give up fighting right off the bat. She told us about the power of hope, the importance of using it, and how gosh darn special a career like medicine can be. She made me want to go into Oncology after I had sworn that it would be way too depressing for my taste and had etched it off my "maybe" Specialty List...she was that good. She even showed us studies of how positive thinking and having support groups can greatly improve the outcome of certain leukemias and even if such support cannot cure a disease, it can certainly make the bearing of it a lot less unpleasant. All this I learned from a soft-spoken woman who graduated from USC Med School and went on to do great great things all because she has a great of gold.
I am SO busy this month with many little tasks up ahead. I have to study for Hematology, start rehearsing for my role as Becca at the Lizard Theater and try not to think about my trip to Hawaii with Matt! Very random sort of tasks, yes, but I am happy that I can have the opportunity to do all this in my life. Seriously. I mean after reading about every possible leukemia and lymphoma that you can get randomly or because of your genetics, it is amazing that I have come this far without having megaloblastic anemia or something worse...like melena due to a GI hemorrhage, for example. That seems so awful. I really have a lot to be thankful for. I do.
Or Life as a Medical Student. (but not completely all about medicine because sometimes, you can just get sick of talking about the good ole' MD)
